Inspired by real events, Péter Bergendy's historical thriller Vault is set in November 1956, days after the fall of the Hungarian Revolution, in the underground vaults of the Ministry of Interior Affairs. The basic premise is unbelievable but true: in November ’56, the reorganised Home Office, having crushed the freedom fight in blood, are faced with the embarrassing situation of being unable to enter their own vault, where confidential and personal material is kept. Behind the vault door, however, they find something quite different from what they expected.
