Let us celebrate together the return of life in general and of the wonderful songs of Budapest Bár to Müpa Budapest in particular! The band is still coming out with new material, and joining the usual team this time will be a versatile guest artist, Lia Pokorny. The ensemble led by Róbert Farkas and boasting well-known star singers are bringing a partially renewed repertoire and, of course, old favourites to the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall.

The online streaming is free of charge, but registration is required. All registered participants will receive a link, where they can access the performance on the 1st of August anytime between 8AM and 11:30PM.

Budapest Bár's arrangements of heartbreaking and heart-wrenching songs into gypsy music has made them one of the most popular bands in Hungary. The ensemble owe their magical appeal to their excellent musicians and cult singers from the world of Hungarian rock music. Originally formed with 12 singers for the purpose of recording a single album, Budapest Bár operate with a completely unique line-up - and this is perhaps why it has by now become the most sought-after concert band and a regular fixture at festivals and on major stages. The roots of the unique style that has become the trademark of Budapest Bár go back to the world of Budapest cafés of the 1920s and 1930s. The well-known and popular songs are reinterpreted as gypsy music, combining elements of jazz, pop, rock, klezmer and many other musical genres - thus creating the foundations of a new musical trend, the gypsy lounge. The year 2022 is an especially important one in the band's history, as they will turn 15 years old at the end of it. The original intention of the band's leader and founder, Róbert Farkas, was to give new energy to the genre of coffee house gypsy music while both retaining and renewing old traditions. Thanks to Budapest Bár, long-forgotten melodies have once again become part of the public consciousness and youth culture. They have dusted off a number of old songs, revived forgotten ones and dressed some well-known ones in new garb, while also writing many new songs in recent times. Their productions are a meeting of eras, cultures and styles - possibly the reason why young and old alike love the band, which has now become a multi-generational favourite. Leaping from one style of music to another, Budapest Bár take us far from the banality of everyday life. Open your ears to the music of joy!
