Marc Straus Gallery presents Law of Attraction, an exhibition of new works by Márton Nemes on view from September 2 through October 26. The show features dynamic paintings and large-scale sculptural installations that expand into three-dimensional space, merging vibrant graffiti-inspired colors with industrial materials.
Nemes transforms visual art into multisensory experience: colored mirrors, LED lights, painted canvases, and stainless steel are paired with the energy of electronic music. Two works from his Irreversible Paintings and Path Paintings series exemplify his vivid fusion of pop-music gestures and abstract geometric forms.
Sound becomes a central element in his Stereo Paintings series, also included in the exhibition. For these, Nemes composed techno-inspired melodies that weave together natural sounds, low-frequency pulses, and industrial tones—standalone artworks that resonate with the paintings themselves.
In other pieces, bold expressionist brushstrokes take sculptural form through laser-cut and powder-coated stainless steel, underscoring the artist’s drive to combine diverse media. These works evoke dialogues with the legacies of Frank Stella and the Pictures Generation while forging a distinctly contemporary voice.

About Márton Nemes
Márton Nemes was born in Székesfehérvár in 1986. From a young age, he painted graffiti on the walls of abandoned industrial buildings. He graduated from Chelsea College of Arts in London in 2018 and has had several exhibitions. In 2024, he represented Hungary at the Venice Biennale with his work Techno Zen. His paintings are exhibited in several modern art museums in Hungary.
His work combines different artistic fields, creating paintings, sculptures, installations, and combinations thereof, to which he often adds sound material, melodies, and audio recordings. The depiction of opposites is a defining feature of his work.
Initially his work was greatly inspired by the architecture of Budapest, particularly the colorful abstraction of its buildings. From the outset, he has been greatly influenced by techno and rave culture. In his creations, he seeks to convey the atmosphere of these subcultures, providing an experience with his colorful, non-figurative style and his images created using a variety of techniques.
