DETAILS
December 5-7, 2024 - Kertész & Brassaï: Visions of 1930s Paris. The Francis F. Dobo Collection of Hungarian Photography
This endeavor finds its genesis in the objectives preliminarily outlined in 2021, then formalized in May of 2022, by the Director of the Central European Institute, Professor Christopher Ball of Quinnipiac University and with visiting scholar György Németh as well as Francis' son, Michael Dobo, wherein they mutually agreed to archive and possibly display the prolific art collection and personal papers accrued by Francis F. Dobo over his time in Paris and New York City. This extensive 20th Century collection of rare vintage prints embodies a rich visual history of artistic and cultural significance. Currently, their agreements’ efforts are focused upon weaving together the threads of Francis’ collection to highlight its historical narrative. This actualization is guided by a profound commitment to preserving and sharing Francis’ legacy, one steeped in such abundant cultural richness. This collection is more than a showcase; it’s a celebration of the visionaries who played a significant role in creating and shaping 20th Century art. Our collective endeavor will attempt to meticulously curate and present a narrative that will traverse time, offering a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of human expression and innovation. Their aspiration is to extend beyond the mere preservation of each artifact, artwork and cultural relic currently archived, to create an immersive and educational in person experience, which will invite visitors to embark on a transformative journey through history, art, and heritage.

Treasures from the Hungarian National Museum Exhibition in New York
Join us on December 13 and experience a special exhibition titled Treasures from the Hungarian National Museum that will be on display at the Consulate General of Hungary.
The exhibition offers a selection of our museum's special artifacts and presents its most precious treasures to the public. Through these artifacts, we would like to illustrate Hungary's rich past and its turbulent centuries of more than 1000 years. Let us glimpse into Hungarian history, from the coronation robes to the 1990s! You will find unique and special objects such as the Seuso treasures, the dressing gown in which Empress Sisi was murdered, the piano owned by Beethoven and then Ferenc Liszt, not to mention the Stalin statue.
The exhibition was realized in the framework of the Petőfi Cultural Program, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and in cooperation with the National Institute of Cultural Heritage.
