Renewal carnival

The Liszt Institute London says goodbye to its Covent Garden premises with a carnival celebration.

Date: 12 February
Venue:  Liszt Institute London
10 Maiden Ln, Covent Garden, London WC2E 7NA

In Hungarian folklore, the carnival season marks the end of the winter and the beginning of a new spring. On 12 February, we invite children and adults to say goodbye not only to winter but also to our beloved venue at Maiden Lane. The star performers of Urban Verbunk presenting traditional folk dance with a modern twist will be joining us in doing so. As nature is reborn during spring, so are we: in March we will re-open our doors at a new, even better venue.*

In the morning hours, our Hungarian-language children's sessions will include playful dances, contests and carnival shenanigans to deepen the young ones' knowledge about Hungarian carnival traditions and to have fun at the same time.

Date, time: 12 February 2022, 10.30 and 11.30 am (Doors open 15 minutes before)

RSVP:

first session (10.30)

second session (11.30)

In the afternoon, the modern folk dance group Urban Verbunk will perform a carnival show. Urban Verbunk unites traditional folklore with a modern dance theatre. They believe that the traditions of the past can only be reliably represented if we form the folk dance of our time in a way that befriends the future.

Date, time: 12 February, 3 and 5 pm  (Doors open 15 minutes before)

RSVP:

First session (3 pm)

Second session (5 pm)

The event is free but registration is required. Due to limited capacities, we will hold two sessions of both the morning and the afternoon programme, please RSVP to only one of each.

TIME CAPSULE

We will collect stories and memorabilia connected to our Maiden Lane premises at the carnival event. If you have nice memories of our past programmes or our building that you would like to share and preserve, please feel free to bring them along and put them in our time capsule which we will carry with us to our new building and save for the future.

*We are looking forward to welcoming you to our new home, once we are done unpacking and cleaning up a little bit. For developments, please follow our social media and sign up for our newsletter. These will be the channels through which we will announce our new address.

The event is kindly supported by the State Secretariat for Culture of the Hungarian Ministry of Human Capacities.
