The phenomenally talented young pianist, BALÁZS HORVÁTH won the Junior Prima Award in 2022. He comes from a dynasty of great Roma musicians. His first love was the cimbalom, that traditional instrument of Hungarian and Romanian gypsies. (It resembles a hammer dulcimer and you hit the open strings with mallets.) At the age of 5, he could already play simple tunes on it. His mother, a one-time pianist persuaded him to learn the piano as well. By the age of 12, having acquired the rudiments of classical piano he happily settled for that. He started playing jazz for pleasure as part of his practice but soon graduated to the conservatory level. Last year he started his Masters course at the world-famous Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. To pile success upon success, in 2022 he was a finalist at the Bob Ravenscourt International Jazz Piano Competition where out of hundreds of entrants only six made it to the finals. In the very same year, he received a special award as a member of the Salamon Tűzkő Quintet, and last year as sideman of the singer Noemi Nagy at the MÜPA Jazz Showcase where he grabbed the attention of Steve Rubie, owner/manager of the 606, hence his appearance here.

The brilliant British tenor player, MATT ANDERSON normally leads his own quartet that has four great albums to its credit. He has also performed with artists/bands such as the Gareth Lockrane and Calum Gourlay big bands, Jamie Doe, Hannes Riepler and Ivo Neame. In Leeds, he performed and recorded with many of the city’s top musicians/composers including Jamie Taylor, Jamil Sheriff and Jiannis Pavlidis (in collaboration with Greg Hutchinson), and he has also toured in New Zealand, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. In 2023, he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for contributions to the music industry. He is also the winner of the John Dankworth Prize for Composition. His new and fourth album, the Matt Anderson Quartet Live at Leeds Jazz Festival was released on the 1st March 2024, with Jazzwise awarding four stars and commenting, “a well-integrated, swinging and supremely confident ensemble… [with] a soulful depth to his musicality that underpins the academic attention to detail”.

Award-winning, London-based jazz bass player, composer and arranger MISHA MULLOW ABBADO is a musician who combines great imagination with raw talent and a clear vision. A BBC New Generation Artist with three critically acclaimed albums on Edition Records under his name, his most recent offering Dream Circus showcases his ‘melodic gift’ (John Fordham, The Guardian) and ability to masterfully combine beautifully crafted compositions with free-spirited improvisation. An experienced band leader and versatile sideman, Misha regularly performs all over the UK and around the world, including at top London venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, the Vortex, King’s Place and Royal Albert Hall.

Mulit-talented drummer, SOPHIE ALLOWAY works in a wide range of musical settings. She played drums for rapper Roots Manuva for two years; touring the UK, Australia and New Zealand with him. As well as appearing on Later With Jools Holland. She has played at top festivals including Glastonbury, Hop Farm, and Bestival.
