We invite writers and translators to submit their work to the latest open call by Hungarian Literature Online (HLO).
Between 18 May and 19 June 2026, HLO welcomes previously unpublished fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and critical writing, including essays, reviews, and profile articles. As a platform dedicated to presenting Hungarian literature in English, HLO primarily seeks works translated from Hungarian, while also welcoming original English-language submissions by Hungarian authors or works engaging with Hungarian themes.
Submission guidelines:
- Fiction and non-fiction: maximum 5,000 words
- Poetry: maximum 6 pages
- Format: Microsoft Word (.doc)
- Include a short biography (up to 100 words) for both the author and translator
- Please ensure all necessary rights and permissions are secured prior to submission
HLO also welcomes proposals for:
- Reviews of works by Hungarian authors or related to Hungary
- Translations of reviews originally published in Hungarian
- Interviews, essays, and author portraits
