Did you know that Welsh soldiers had already helped the Hungarians at the Battle of Mohács? And that Kossuth and Bartók made history in Wales? In the land of dragons, more and more people are proudly recalling János Arany And Welsh-language pop music has its own celebration in Budapest.

From Cardiff to Bangor, from Aberystwyth to Montgomery, you can find Hungarian music in almost every corner of Wales. Since 1947, a Hungarian choir has won first place more than 31 times at the largest international festival in Wales, the National Eisteddfod at Llangollen - and at last year's festival the life and work of Béla Bartók related to Wales war highlighted.

There is no shortage of lovers of Welsh culture in Hungary either. From Balatonalmádi to Békés county, many Hungarians proudly fly the red, white and green flag of "Cymru" - some for 25 years! Just like our Welsh friends, they too cherish with love and devotion the multifaceted cultural and business ties that have developed between Wales and Hungary

On 14th May 2022, hundreds gathered in the Welsh town of Montgomery to celebrate our cultural ties, in a historic event organised by Montgomery Town Council and Magyar Cymru, the Welsh-Hungarian cultural initiative.To honour the legacy of this special day and celebrate our diverse cultural links, 14th May was declared Welsh-Hungarian Friendship Day.
