CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - Milán Füst Translation Foundation 2025 Translation Grant Competition

To mark the birthday of Hungarian writer and poet, Milán Füst, the Milán Füst Translation Foundation announced a literary translation competition on 17 July. The foundation’s goal is to promote Hungarian literature abroad, and to support this aim, it is launching a translation competition.

Applicants must be translating a Hungarian literary work into a foreign language. Preference will be given to those translating a work by Milán Füst, or to those who regularly contribute to the international promotion of Milán Füst.

Applications must be submitted in Hungarian by 30 September 2025 and must include a bibliography of the applicant’s work. If the applicant regularly contributes to the international promotion of Milán Füst, documentation of this activity is requested.

There is no separate application form for submission.

The amount of the Milán Füst Translation Grant is €2,500. The number of grants to be awarded will be determined by the Board of Trustees. A valid application requires that the applicant hold a publishing contract, or at least a letter of intent from a publisher, for the work to be translated.

The prizes will be presented to the winners by the Board of Trustees of the Milán Füst Translation Foundation in a ceremonial setting.
