Hungarian Language and Hungarology Program

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (KKM) is once again announcing the Márton Áron Scholarship for the 2025/2026 academic year as part of the Balassi Bálint Scholarship Program. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide an opportunity for foreign university students and graduates who are not native Hungarian speakers to participate in Hungarian language and Hungarology training. Through this program, participants can deepen their language skills and expand their knowledge of Hungarian studies while staying in Hungary.
The training lasts for 10 months, from September 2025 to June 2026, and takes place in Budapest, in collaboration with the University of Pécs. The program is divided into two semesters, each including a 14-week study period and a 4-week exam period. Students attend classes for 28-30 hours per week and must complete 4-6 exams. Language development plays a crucial role in the program, with intensive language courses ranging from 12 to 28 hours per week in small-group settings.

The Hungarology courses cover a wide range of topics, including Hungarian history, literature, ethnography, arts, society, economy, culture, and the political system. At the end of the program, students must take a language exam and complete a final examination in Hungarology studies.

The KKM provides scholarship recipients with free education, a monthly stipend of 45,000 HUF (paid monthly), free accommodation, a student ID that grants access to various discounts, and healthcare services. The program has a planned capacity of 60 participants.

The scholarship is open to university students and graduates under the age of 35 who are foreign citizens and not native Hungarian speakers. Applicants must have already completed or be currently pursuing Hungarology or related studies and intend to promote the Hungarian language and culture in the future.

Applications must be submitted online at https://spjelentkezes.mdakft.hu by April 24, 2025. The required documents include a signed declaration, a professional study plan, a copy of the university transcript (index) or diploma, a copy of the passport, and at least one recommendation letter from a Hungarology expert or a recognized specialist in the applicant's field of interest.
