DIFFERENT WORLDS 2019 - CURATOR'S EDITION
INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL AIMED AT YOUNG CURATORS IN THE FIELD OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY
This year, the open call for young and not-yet-established curators in the field of contemporary photography, organized by the Photon Gallery – Center for Contemporary Photography from Ljubljana, will replace the competition traditionally aimed at young photographers.
Please follow this link to our online listing of the open call.
The competition is open to curators up to the age of 35 (including birth year 1984) who work, live, or are internationally active in countries of the CEE region (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Estonia, Croatia, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia) and Austria. The young curators can enter their exhibition project proposals independently or as a curatorial group (with up to three members).
The applicants will be able to draw on the material for their exhibition project proposal from the past six editions of the Different Worlds (2013–2018) photo competition, namely from the respective sets of about ten finalists of each edition.
All applicants have to apply with a group exhibition concept with at least 2 and no more than 6 authors from the past editions. Later on, the winner, or winners in case of a curatorial group, will be given access to the entire archive of the Different Worlds competition.
Archive in .zip format and individual images.
The open call has no required topic
We accept a variety of curatorial concepts that take into account the technical limitations of the exhibition space (see the floor plan), or surpass these limitations by employing creative installation concepts. Moreover, proposals presenting an original and innovative overall concept, a selection of works, or installation will be evaluated by the jury with a higher score. A jury composed of representatives from Photon Gallery and Kino Šiška will decide on the best curatorial selection. The first prize provides support of 2,000 € for the production of the exhibition that will take place at the Kino Šiška exhibition premises. Representatives of the Photon Gallery will offer their expertise with the execution of the exhibition throughout the project. All travel and accommodation costs for the exhibition setup and opening will likewise be covered for the winner/winners of the competition.
The application should include:
· A brief CV describing relevant projects (2–5 projects), not necessarily curatorial ones. If you are applying as a curatorial group please include individual CVs of all group members;
· An argumentation of the project’s content (obligatory in English), should not exceed 1,500 characters;
· A selection of works for the curated exhibition including a list of selected artists and their works (max. 30);
The entire application should be compressed into a single zipped file, named accordingly Name_Surname_ProjectTitle.zip, and submitted along with the application form.
The selected exhibition will be presented at a group exhibition at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, which will open on 11 November 2019 and last until 30 November 2019. The exhibition will be accompanied by a small exhibition catalogue.
Applicants should submit their applications not later than 14 June 2019 via the application form http://bit.ly/DW2019_apply
