Kata Bereczki (1980, Dombóvár) graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2011, majoring in painting. She is an active professional artist, has participated in numerous exhibitions in Hungary and abroad, and has received numerous awards. Her paintings can be found in several private and public collections.
In her works, she acts as an outside observer, documenting and highlighting, leaving free space for associations. The facelessness of her subjects emphasises universality and makes events belong to everyone. Clear, contourless patches of colour on canvas in acrylic technique. Reduced figures in an undefined space. She transforms the scene into homogeneous patches of colour. She insists that the image can be interpreted as a stand-alone visual experience, independent of the narrative, and that the narrative is carried by visual forms that are easily recognizable and memorable.
Her images remind us that we are all experiencing very similar things. She also depicts everyday scenes that almost all of us experience, that we all have in our family photo albums, but with different characters. The aim is to imagine whole stories behind the composed scenes.
Kata is present in Estonia for the first time. Her exhibition 'Journey of Life' showcasing her older and newer pictures was opened in our gallery on 25 November 2021. It was on display in the Kuressaare Cultural Center at Saaremaa, in Viimsi Library and the Riisipere Cultural Centre, and now on display until end of September in the Paide Cultural Center. Welcome!
