In Hungarian Góbé means a man with a twisted mind. But it also means a Hungarian band who twistedly and playfully blends together traditional and contemporary music. Established in 2007, the band members have studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music so their range of tools includes classical, folk, jazz and pop but they are also keen to explore other genres from blues to dubstep and artforms such as theatre, circus, dance and film scores. They create novel soundscapes by challenging the technical limits of their acoustic instruments.

Defying conventional genre definitions, they've created a kind of folk-pop music that's entertaining and contemporary, but at the same time preserves its traditional nature. Góbé's goal is to bring folk music closer to people and introduce the culture that lies behind their songs. The band has been active for 15 years, they have travelled across half of Europe and given more than 1000 concerts. Góbé has been to Estonia before, and they are coming to the Viljandi Folk Music Festival for the second time.

At the festival, Góbé gives a concert and also organizes a workshop, where the musicians will show the true face of Hungarian music and present their own vision of what makes folk music the people’s music.
