On February 9, at the ceremony in Noblessner Foundry, the annual awards and lifetime achievement awards of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia for 2023 and the annual awards of the endowment funds for visual and applied arts, audio-visual art and folk culture were handed over.
Writer, poet, screenwriter, translator and publicist Arvo Valton received one of the lifetime achievement awards. Arvo Valton is a living classic of Estonian literature. Valton's innovative short stories sparked discussions in the 1960s, and his works in different genres have interested the readers and critics for decades. In the last few decades, he has published dozens of translated books, and he has also compiled literature and poetry collections of the Finno-Ugric peoples. He has translated Hungarian literature into Estonian and has developed Estonian cultural contacts with Hungary.
Edina Csyllög, a director and producer of Hungarian origin living in Estonia, received the annual award of the audio-visual arts endowment fund for the film "Päikeseaeg" (Sundial), together with Liis Nimik. Edina Csyllög has worked as an editor, director and screenwriter for Hungarian and Estonian production companies. She has organized several cultural events, such as the Hungarian Film Days in Tartu and the Finno-Ugric film festival in Misso.
