The Collegium Hungaricum Vienna recalls the most significant events of King Charles IV of Hungary.

One hundred years ago, on 1 April, 1922, the last Hungarian king, Charles IV died. The barely two-year reign of Charles, who was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, was overshadowed by World War I. Although he wanted peace, he could not protect his people from the devastating effects of the war, which led to the loss of his throne and the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

At the conference, Austrian and Hungarian historians will present the important milestones of Charles's short reign and life. The event will be accompanied by a photo exhibition showing the last months of the monarch and his family in Madeira.
