On 21 April, an exhibition on Emil Szittya’s oeuvre opens at the Liszt Institute Paris, presenting the avant-garde artist's career through works from French and Hungarian collections.

Emil Szittya (born Adolf Schenk, Budapest, 1886 - Paris, 1964) was one of the most enigmatic figures of the Hungarian and international avant-garde. During his lifetime, he published hundreds of articles and wrote numerous books in Hungarian, German, French and Italian on sociological, psychological and art-related topics. He is also known for his fiction books, the last of which, ’ 82 rêves pendant la guerre 1939-1945 ’, has recently been republished in Paris.

The exhibition is curated by art historian Zoltán Rockenbauer, who will take part in a round table discussion on 17 May, organised jointly by the Museum of Jewish Art and History in Paris and the Liszt Institute. The discussion will also include representatives from major institutions, such as the French National Museum of Modern Art (Mnam) and the Musée d'Orsay.
