Representatives from the V4 countries discuss the present and future of design in the Central European region in the Finnish capital.

The experts at the conference, which was held on 10 March in the framework of the Hungarian V4 Presidency, sought to bring the still little-known Central and Eastern European design industry closer to the Finnish public. Discussants Árpád Keresztúry (director of the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency), Veronika Pařízková (founding-editor-in-chief of Czechdesign magazine), Marjatta Itkonen-Tomaszewski, (professor of Graphic Design at Aalto University) and Michala Lipková (director of the Design Institute at the University of Bratislava) described the institutional system and the importance of design education in their country, emphasising the role of designers in preserving cultural heritage.

The discussion was moderated by Anni Korkman, director of Helsinki Design Week, Scandinavia's largest design festival.
