An exhibition opened on February 8, 2024, featuring the artworks of Mattis-Teutsch Waldemar and his wife, Mariana Mattis-Teutsch, at the Pavel Șușară Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, organized by the Liszt Institute of Bucharest. The exhibition, held in the highly popular cultural space, was received by a full house of visitors.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by painter Waldemar Mattis-Teutsch, photographer Mariana Mattis-Teutsch, and author Pavel Șușară. In his opening speech, Pavel Șușară highlighted the uniqueness of the two artists while also drawing attention to their similarities. The painter's art and his wife's photographs, although representing two different artistic mediums and visual languages, also embody two distinct perspectives and approaches. The painter portrays refined suprematist elements, while his wife employs elliptical structures and massive geometries that reinterpret their original state and meaning. The similarity between the two creators lies in their experimentation with lights and holograms. This combination makes the exhibition both exceptional and cohesive.
Waldemar Mattis-Teutsch completed his university studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest. In 1988, he won the Sinaide Ghi Roma Prize with his watercolor. In 1993, he participated in a hologram workshop led by master Urs Fries in Basel, Switzerland. In 1996, he designed and built his own hologram workshop in Brașov, and in 2003, he won the Shearwater Foundation Prize. He, has had solo art exhibitions in Hungary and Romania, as well as at the Hofstra Gallery in New York (1990 and 1991) and the Galerie Dr. Luise Krohn in Badenweiler, Germany. He, has also had individual exhibitions of new media, holograms, and 3D art in Germany and Russia. His art and work are characterized by a dedication to experimentation and a unique form of linguistic and artistic interpretation and research. Last year, the Liszt Institute of Bucharest organized an exhibition of his hologram works.
Mariana Mattis-Teutsch, the artist's wife, also completed her university studies in Bucharest and is currently a teacher at the Hans Mattis-Teutsch Art High School in Brașov. She previously worked with glass art and is currently focused on photography. Her photographic approach is characterized by capturing different manifestations of light.
The first collaborative exhibition of Mattis-Teutsch Waldemar and Mariana Mattis-Teutsch will be open until April 7, 2024.
