The 41st Slovenian Book Fair is held in Ljubljana from November 24 to 30, with Hungary as the guest of honor for the week-long festival. For Hungary and Hungarian culture, being featured as the guest country represents an outstanding opportunity to take part in one of the country's most significant literary and cultural events, which attracts more than 60,000 visitors each year, thus surpassing the attendance of the Vienna Book Fair. The main organizer of the guest country programme is the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre Ljubljana, and the event is realized with the principal support of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and the Petőfi Cultural Agency. Additional supporters include the Municipality of Debrecen, Libri, and the Hungarian National Cultural Institute of Lendava.

Hungary’s booth welcomes visitors to the 41st Slovenian Book Fair from Monday to Sunday with a wide selection of books and additional points of interest. The fair features the life’s work of László Krasznahorkai, Hungarian-language literature from the Mura region, and Debrecen’s literary world, the Petőfi Cultural Agency announced. Over the past 10 years, 27 Slovenian translations of Hungarian literary works have been published, nearly all of which will be available at the fair. These include works by László Krasznahorkai, Péter Nádas, Magda Szabó, Judit Polgár, György Dragomán, and László F. Földényi.

This year, writers Péter Nádas, Réka Mán-Várhegyi, and Krisztina Tóth will attend the fair, joined by literary scholar Anna Juhász.
In addition to the literary programs, cultural events, a dance performance by the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, film screenings, and concerts by the Saint Ephraim Male Choir and the Muzsikás ensemble await visitors.
This year, four new translations were published in Slovenian, including Péter Nádas’s Tales of Horror, which will be presented with the author himself in attendance.

At the opening of the book fair on Monday, Anita Kiss-Hegyi, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, will deliver a speech on behalf of the guest of honor country. On Tuesday, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble performs Dancing Hungarians at the gala of the guest country. Following the performance, Beletrina Publishing House introduces the newest Slovenian translation of Péter Nádas’s Tales of Horror, titled Grozljive zgodbe.

On Wednesday, the Saint Ephraim Male Choir will perform a concert titled Angel Wings, and Márta Mészáros’s film Diary for My Children will be screened. On Thursday, the Muzsikás ensemble will take the stage. On Saturday, audiences can join a discussion with Krisztina Tóth and watch Zoltán Fábri’s 1969 adaptation of The Boys of Paul Street.
