The 18th Hungarian Convention in Australia took place in Melbourne between 28 December 2025 and 2 January 2026, attracting around 1,300 participants.
Hungarian Conventions have a long tradition in Australia. The first was organised in 1970 by Melbourne’s Hungarian community, and since then – usually every three years – the event has rotated among the five cities with significant Hungarian populations: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
Held at the Hungarian Community Centre in Melbourne under the motto Reconnect – Find Your Roots!, the gathering drew considerable interest. Approximately 1,300 guests arrived from various Australian states and from New Zealand, including many second- and third‑generation Hungarians.
The six‑day event offered a rich and diverse programme featuring performers from Hungary and Australia, including folk dance, folk music, Hungarian cuisine, and lectures in both Hungarian and English.
The Embassy of Hungary in Canberra was one of the event’s principal supporters, with Ambassador Zsolt Csenger‑Zalán serving as its chief patron.
