This year, the 180th anniversary of the death of Sándor Csoma Kőrösi was commemorated both in Transylvania and India.
On 10 April, representatives of the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Memorial Centre in Transylvania and the Liszt Institute Sfântu Gheorghe laid flowers at the statue of Sándor Csoma Kőrösi in his hometown, Csomakőrös. A day later, the Liszt Institute Delhi held a commemoration at the grave of the world traveller in Darjeeling.
At the Darjeeling event, they honoured Sándor Csoma Kőrösi as the iconic figure of Hungarian-Indian friendship, the founder of Tibetology and the creator of the Tibetan-English dictionary. The celebrations were concluded by a Buddhist ceremony in Darjeeling and a Reformed ceremony in Transylvania. Representatives from the Asiatic Society and the Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs of West Bengal also joined the event in India.
