All-Hungarian celebration in Kolozsvár

The Hungarian Cultural Days of Cluj, a festival series that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, was held for the 16th time between August 17–24.

The week-long cultural event, taking place across dozens of venues, was officially opened with a gala at the Cluj-Napoca Hungarian Opera attended by President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok. At the Folk Courtyard, brought to life by the House of Transylvanian Traditions, visitors had chance to meet local groups preserving popular traditions of Cluj and its surroundings. Meanwhile, Fogoly Street once again transformed into a “wine street,” offering numerous Hungarian wineries the opportunity to showcase their unique wines.

One of the goals of the Treasure Cluj Association is to support Hungarian artistic life in Transylvania. Under this initiative, a special exhibition was launched by the Barabás Miklós Guild, which celebrates its 95th anniversary this year and was awarded the Hungarian Heritage Prize in 2010.

For the third consecutive year, the Consulate General of Hungary in Cluj-Napoca played an integral role in the multi-day event as a “festival within the festival.” On the #főtér23 stage, performances included the Sárik Péter Trio and Koszika, Cimbaliband, Gypo Circus and Jennifer Szirota. Balázs Szabó and his Band, Lotfi Begi, and the group Konyha also delivered truly memorable evenings in the courtyard turned festival venue.

The rich and community-building week attracted a large number of visitors, and once again proved to be an outstanding success.
