HUN-BEL 100

Following the peace treaty around Paris at the end of the First World War, Hungary, which had become independent, established diplomatic relations with most of the Western European states. In January 1922, the Hungarian government decided to open a diplomatic mission in Brussels, after which on 20 February Olivér Count Olivér Woracziczky, Counsellor of the Embassy, Second Class, handed over his credentials to the Belgian Foreign Minister Henri Jaspar, which can be considered the starting point of the centenary.

Preparations for the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hungarian-Belgian diplomatic relations started in 2019 with the collection of documents and photos. On the basis of these, a multilingual publication in Flemish, French, English and Hungarian has been prepared, which, illustrated with photographs and photos of original documents, recalls the most important diplomatic events of the past 100 years. In consultation with our Belgian partners, we are planning a series of joint events between 20 February 2022 and 19 February 2023.
