The Belgian Club of Hungarian Scientists presents

For Every Life: A Commitment to Protection

Date: 8 November
Time: 17:00
Venue:  Liszt Institute Brussels

What factors influence the long-term neurological outcomes of premature infants?

Celebrate Hungarian Science Day with us at a truly special event!

Join us on November 8th at 6 PM at the Liszt Institute Brussels for an enlightening discussion on preterm brain injury and development. The immature brain is vulnerable to unique injuries like white-matter injury, germinal matrix–intraventricular hemorrhage, and cerebellar hemorrhage. Advances in neuroimaging and neuroscience have deepened our understanding of these injuries and their dysmaturational effects on brain development. This review explores the three major forms of brain injury in very preterm infants, factors mediating altered brain development, and how these contribute to adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, with implications for future neuroprotective strategies in neonatal care.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Zsuzsanna Nagy, a distinguished researcher and Clinical Chief Physician at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Semmelweis University.

Following the lecture, prepare for a cinematic experience at 7 PM. We are thrilled to present Semmelweis (2023), the opening film of the Hungarian Film Festival, directed by the legendary Lajos Koltai. This visually stunning and emotionally charged film brings to life the incredible journey of Semmelweis, the revolutionary Hungarian physician whose groundbreaking discovery in antiseptic procedures saved countless lives. The film invites you into the world of 19th-century medicine, blending history, drama, and personal triumph in a way that is both thought-provoking and deeply inspiring.
The film will be presented in Hungarian with English subtitles.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in groundbreaking scientific research and Hungarian history!
