The Párniczky Quartet

Formed in 2016 by the visionary guitarist András Párniczky (DLA), the Párniczky Quartet masterfully blends Bartók's timeless compositions with the spontaneity and creativity of improvisational jazz. Joined by his talented colleagues from his previous ensemble, Nigun – wind instrumentalist Péter Bede and bassist Péter Ajtai – Párniczky has enthralled audiences at over 300 concerts globally. Their performances have graced prestigious venues such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Bravo Art Festival in Brussels, Technopolis Jazz in Athens, and the Academy of Music in Budapest.

Their critically acclaimed album, Bartók Electrified, released in 2018 by Budapest Music Center, marked a milestone in their musical journey. This innovative project was performed at the MÜPA in 2016 and saw collaboration with renowned musicians Frank Möbus, Daniel Erdmann, Carlos Bica, and Dejan Terzic during their European tour in 2019.

In 2023, the Quartet embraced a new chapter with the addition of drummer Ágoston Szabó-Sipos. They have developed a summative repertoire that embodies the essence of János Gonda’s words: “[…] the sovereign European improvisational musical language, which integrates the elements of modern chamber jazz, contemporary and folk music.” Their latest compositions transcend traditional thematic boundaries, creating a dynamic and self-expressive performance that preserves the Quartet's distinct sound. This new repertoire debuted at the House of Hungarian Music in January 2023, followed by an album release from Fonó Records.
