A serendipitous encounter in 2021 at a music festival in Italy led to the formation of a duo ensemble between Hungarian cellist Balázs Dolfin and Chinese-New Zealand pianist Tony Chen Lin. Having similar educational backgrounds – both formally trained in Hungary and Germany – the two musicians bring a dynamic and spontaneous energy to their performances, fuelled by a shared passion for chamber music, a common musical vision and close rapport as friends. While drawing from a combined spring of diverse influences and heritages that stretch to the corners of the globe, the pair still considers Budapest their “musical home”, where a rich music tradition continues to inspire and inform them. Scholars of Jeunesses Musicales International Chamber Music Campus, the Dolfin-Lin Duo have sought guidance from professors Wen-Sinn Yang, András Kemenes, Péter Nagy, Dénes Várjon and Ditta Rohmann. They have received further inspiration and encouragement from members of the Kuss Quartet, Alban Berg Quartet, and the Artemis Quartet. The duo have performed in Switzerland, Germany and Hungary (György Solti Hall) and together they continue to explore and relish the rich piano-violoncello literature.
