Intangible Cultural Heritage in Hungary - Photo Exhibition from the Hungarian Open Air Museum
The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted by the UNESCO General Assembly in 2003 and 182 states have joined it by the end of 2023. The Convention aims at the preservation of practices of living communities, the mutual recognition of cultural diversity, and the awareness of the importance of non-tangible forms of expression often threatened with extinction, and the protection of such heritage elements. Almost fifty living heritage communities are already listed in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hungary. These communities and traditions are represented in the photographs, including the folk arts of Kalocsa, the Matyó, the Busó procession, the circus tradition, numerous folk customs and folk dances.
The pictures in the exhibition were taken by Balázs Farkas-Mohi, commisioned by the Hungarian Open Air Museum.
