Day of Hungarian Culture

Since 1989, the Day of Hungarian Culture has been celebrated on January 22nd. It pays homage to the Hungarian national anthem created by the poet Ferenc Kölcsey. The purpose of the day is to introduce and pass on the material and spiritual heritage of the ancestors.

A conductor of national theater, Ferenc Erkel, won the competition for composing the anthem. The audience got to know his composition for the first time on July 2, 1844.

On 2006, a sculpture was erected in honour of the national anthem. Sculpture "Anthem" is created by Mária V. Majzik and it's located in the town of Budakeszi near Budapest.
