Cornerstone Laid For Pécs Concert Hall

The cornerstone of the Pécs Conference and Concert Centre, one of the main projects for the city's European Capital of Culture 2010 programme, was laid on Tuesday.
The cornerstone was laid by State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Ferenc Csák, Pécs Mayor Zsolt Páva, Government Commissioner for Priority Projects Tamás Suchman, Managing Director of the South Transdanubia Development Agency György Márton, Chairman-CEO of Magyar Epito Tibor Tolnay, and Arcadom CEO István Sokorai.

The conference and concert centre will become the Southern Transdanubia Region's biggest multi-functional event centre when it opens in the autumn of 2010. The concert hall - to become the home to the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra -- will seat up to 999 people. There were also be a rehearsal room for big orchestras. The ground floor conference room will have capacity to seat 368 people, if needed, in different sections. The conference centre on the first storey will have capacity for 287 and will be especially outfitted for dance performances.
 
The centre will cost HUF 7.24 billion, including construction costs of HUF 6.37 billion.
 
A consortium of Magyar Építő and Arcadom is building the centre.
